Time is running out

Mail in voter registration forms must be sent by October 6. Do you have a friend or family member who is not registered? Get them to fill one out now. It will soon be too late. This election is very important, and our party has some wonderful opportunities to make headway. Voter registration forms are available from county clerks at their offices and websties. They may be printed out and mailed in. See my own website at www.andy4ag.com and look for the registration link. Very easy. Do it now.

And I also have campaign materials now in Price and Moab; and flyers are online for printing. Go to my site and look for "campaign materials".

Campaign news

September 8, 2008

Today I received a shipment of Barr for President bumper srickers. Call the campaign office at 565-1988 or drop by at 6885 S. State (upstairs from Doctor John's) in Midvale to get yours. As of now, my campaign signs and bumper stickers are also available at the law offices of Trent Ricks at 266 East 500 South in Salt Lake City, the law offices of Rob Latham at 845 S. Main St in Bountiful, and the law offices of Aric Cramer at 90 East 100 South in St. George. Also, in northern Davis and Weber counties, send an e-mail to Vince at mccullough@boyplankton.com, and he will make arrangements for you. In Cache County, drop by the Logan library and ask for Joseph. Barr stickers will be sent out to these and other places soon as well. We really need someone in central Utah and out in the basin. Volunteers?

Labor Day, and the "official" campaign begins

Traditionally, in major election years, the campaign season begins on Labor Day. I am glad to report that we are ready to get started. The Party (and my campaign) have an official phone number: 801-565-1988. Call and ask questions or volunteer to help. We can use people to put out signs, distribute bumper stickers, design and distribute advertising and literature, make phone calls, and all the things campaigns do. We have been donated an office next door to my law office at 6885 S. State St. in Midvale (yes, upstairs from Doctor John's Lingerie). Drop by, pick up a sign, buy a cool "Libertarian" hat, or just say "hi".

Display your support

The Utah Libertarian Party has just ordered bumper stickers for Bob Barr for President, and a limited supply of real cool "Libertarian" hats. Contact Andy at wandrew@prodigy.net to get yours. If there is enough interest, we will also obtain a supply of Bob Barr lawn signs, so let me know if you are interested. To help support the party, there will be a nominal charge of $1.00 for bumper stickers and $15.00 for hats. Get yours now, and show your support!

Repeal the Private Club Law

Recently there has been much discussion of the repeal of Utah's anachronistic Private Club law which requires a membership for those who wish to go to many bars. The governor supports the change as something that will help tourism; and it has seemed likely that change was in the wind. Now it appears that John Valentine, the Senate President, opposes this change; and his opposition may be enough to derail it. Well, there is also an effort underway to change the law through a petition and ballot initiative. Either way, the change should be made. Since public opinion polls show widespread support, the legislature should save all of us a lot of money, and do their job.

We need help

July 18, 2008

A small group of dedicated officers and candidates is workng hard to get the Party functioning and help our candidates get votes. We need help in doing this. Please contact us to volunteer. We need people to help with computer work, contacting and coordinating members and supporters. We need people to help us distribute signs, literature, etc. We could use help with phone calls, press relations, and just about anything you can do. Right now I need some poeple who may be traveling to other areas of the State to take some aigns and to pass them out to supporters there. And I need people in areas outside of Salt Lake to store them and have them available for supporters. Bob Barr needs sopme local p[eople to help with his national campaign. Whatever you can do, please let us know. We canot not make progress without you.

Bob Barr for President

Today the Libertarian Party nominated former Repbuclian Congressman Bob Barr of Georgia for President. As a member of congress, Barr was known as a "drug warrior". Today he was nominated by the Executive Director of the Marijuana Policy Project, a sign he has come a long way since his days as a Republican. The Libertarian Party of Utah welcomes Cpongressman Barr to the race, and hopes we will see him come to Utah to make the case for more freedom, smaller government and lower taxes. Join us in our efforts to bring about a better world. Pay your dues today and join the party. See our website for instructions; and let's get to work to build our party and have a real influence in this election. In early polls, Congressman Barr is polling much better numbers than our party has ever achieved in the presidential race. Let's make sure we do what is necessary to make sure the final numbers are even better.

Welcome to the new Libertarian Party

Hi -- My name is Andrew McCullough, and I am the new State Chair of the Libertarian Party of Utah. I am also running for Utah Attorney General. Click the link on this page for candidates, and see my website and blog.

I am an attorney specializing in First Amendment (free speech) and Fourth Amendment (searches and seizures) matters. I bring a slightly different outlook to Libertarianism than some. I believe it is more important to fight what the government does TO us (intefering with our personal freedoms),than what it tries to do FOR us (public transportation, schools, etc). No, I don't like taxes, and I see much that the government does that is wasteful, counterproductive, and just dumb. But what really scares me is that the government appears to by systematically eroding the consitutional rights that we have fought for since 1776, in the name of public safety. As Ben Franklin said: "Those who would give up essential liberty in order to gain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety". That is my philosophy of libertarianism in a nutshell.

Will you champion liberty for Utahns?

Dear Fellow Utahn,

The Libertarian Party of Utah is once again authorized to nominate candidates for partisan elected office. And voters may also now register to vote as Libertarians.

Several races across Utah, including many at the county level, will be uncontested. That is, unless you file to give voters a choice between
